What would make a good winter blog?

It’s often hard to think about what subject to blog about at Christmas – especially for your business. We can feel a bit de-mob happy or a bit stuck for subjects to talk about.

Ten ideas for business blogs in December:

  1. The most obvious is to do a review of your year in business. Share the highs and lows, and times of celebration.  Any collaborations that have taken place; new staff joining; new products or services added this year.
  2. Write a blog about what it is like for your business leading up to Christmas. It might be your busiest part of the year, or your slowest. What does a day in the life of your business look like in December?
  3. Write a personal blog about what Christmas means to you; the special traditions that you and your family follow, or have built.
  4. List the things you are looking forward to in the coming year. Are you taking on employees for the very first time, or expanding your existing workforce? Are you moving to a new building? Celebrating a business milestone and planning ahead of time?
  5. Thank staff and clients for their support during the year. Thank other businesses who have collaborated with you, or supported you in other ways. Thank your family for their understanding when you’ve had long hours, and thank friends who may have helped you starting out with your business.
  6. If the environment is important to you in your business, write about having a Green Christmas. E.g. 5 ways clients can use your products to have a green Christmas. 5 ways your product or service has a positive impact on the environment. How you as a business have embraced being Green e.g the environmental impact of using less. Paper, changing packaging etc.
  7. Write a fun Christmas blog, including comments from employees if you have them:  your top favourite Christmas films; top favourite Christmas songs. If you are a food producer – your top favourite choice of Christmas food.
  8. You might give tips to help your clients over Christmas. For example, if you are a photographer, give tips about how to take good photos during the Christmas holidays, using your mobile.  Talk about the importance of facing natural light, rather than standing with all of the light behind you – eg. As happens when you stand in front of a lit Christmas tree.
  9. Talk about a charity you support  and how you support them particularly at Christmas. For example, one of the business networks I belong to supports the Swindon Toy Appeal – where they provide toys for families with children, that wouldn’t otherwise receive presents.  Or provide some of your food products, or donate to food banks or homeless.
  10. And if the weather is a thing in December – as it surely has been this last week – then that’s a great subject. How has the weather impacted your business? Has it shown that your business is agile? Is it a moment to talk about working from home? Or something else related to the weather.
