HOW TO BE A JOURNALIST’S DREAM CONTACT:
You may already know that on February 5th and 6th 2025 I’m hosting my very first No BS Media Summit, which of course, I’m thrilled to be doing.
If you come along, what’s in it for you?
Here are 5 great reasons to book your place:
- You’ll get to meet and learn from FIVE amazing journalists who come from a range of publications with different areas of interest!
- You’ll get to network with other fabulous business owners, marketing managers and charity reps!
- You’ll learn about personal branding and professional speaking at the masterclass if you join us for both days!
- You’ll learn how to pitch yourself and your business to the media and share your stories and expertise!
- You can connect with and keep in contact with journalists who want to work with you – when relevant.
Having the opportunity to work with and learn from working journalists is priceless. It is very rare and having the chance to talk about you, your business and share your stories is something to grasp while it is available.
5 things you will learn during your time with the journalists:
- You will learn when approaching national journalists, what do they consider a story worthy of being in national press, and what is not a story?
- The importance of knowing the journalist you are approaching. If you send your story to someone whose main interest is sport, and you send them a human interest story about a relationship, then that is not going to be something you’re interested in. You need to know what that journalist writes about.
- Professional photographs to go with your story are key. NOT photos taken on your phone. Often you don’t have photos, then you may well miss out on an opportunity – although sometimes, you will have photographs taken by the paper or magazine themselves.
- Journalists are NOT interested in sales, or people and businesses wanting to sell their brand.
- You will learn that timing is important too. If you are contacted by a journalist, then you need to answer quickly and in the time slot they ask for. They are far busier than you are. If you work with someone and you prove you are reliable, then they are likely to come back to you again.
One of the other journalists who will be sharing his expertise on the day is Nick Hardie.
Nick is an award-winning Series Director / Producer, with over 15 years’ experience, specialising in ambitious premium factual series and observational feature documentaries. I first met Nick when he was a student and came to do some work experience at ITV West. We got on so well and he was clearly destined to be part of the media. Since then he’s sky rocketed past me to work all over the world. He’s always looking for long form stories to tell.
He is known for directing the first and second series of series of Netflix’s Formula One: Drive to Survive and the acclaimed rock climbing feature documentary, The Wall: Climb for Gold, and has worked with all of the major platforms including Netflix, Apple, BBC, Amazon and Channel 4 among others.
He is drawn to telling bold, distinctive stories with emotion, complexity and cinematic flair. The enjoys both the authenticity and immediacy of observational filmmaking, an approach he feels passionate about, but also enjoys the depth and considered nature of scripted work.
The Wall- Climb for Gold’ is a documentary following four female athletes, capturing the tension of performance through both Olympic qualifying and the competition itself in Tokyo. Filmed during the Pandemic, the film garnered comments about how refreshing it was to watch the camera turned towards female competitors, with the male voices relegated to the side-lines, as most climbing documentaries have tended to be from a male point of view.
Nick will bring a unique view to the Summit.
Don’t miss out – if you are interested in attending some of all of the Summit, the early bird price ends on November 30th, and after that date prices will rise by £100 + VAT per ticket. https://scottmedia.uk/product/the-no-bs-media-summit/
