October is an important month in our household

I love the autumnal colours that I see when I’m out and about, but I don’t like having to get up and go out in the dark, especially when it’s dank and drizzly.
At the end of this month, we change the clocks, and as the feeling of ‘dampness’ arrives, I always seem to get a cold or cough. As though my body reacts to the changing of the seasons, and I can almost set my clock by it!
However, despite all of that, October is a great month for us as a family with several birthdays’ and anniversaries – and they continue into November and December.
I actually have lots of things to look forward to.
Last week, I had my 15th Business Birthday Bash with my besties, Lis, and more on that in my blog next week.
Then my most favourite time of the year – Christmas – all things sparkly and it’s just round the corner.
This month though we celebrate or remember:
*My parents’ wedding anniversary 13th. Mum always tells me how she wanted to get married in October (which is quite unusual, as most people go for summer months) … But, when she spoke to the vicar, he told her the only date he had left was Friday the 13th October.
Most people hadn’t wanted to get married on that day, due to all of the superstition around the number 13. As Mum was thinking about it, before she say anything he pointed out, that, as she was a church-goer, the date wouldn’t put her off at all, would it? So they did get married and that marriage lasted until my Dad passed away in 1997.
*Our daughter Sammie’s birthday is this month too so there will be family and friends’ celebrations around that.
*It would have been my Dad’s birthdya on the 16th, and this year he would have been 85 years old. I don’t think about him in a maudlin way, but do give him some thought on his birthday. He passed away at the young age of 58 and I often wish he was alive to see my lovely children – his grandchildren and now our grandchild too.
*Two of our other friends also have their birthdays this month – Phil on the 12th – the husband of my friend Ainslie, who died of cancer and for whose community project I support every year. The other is Conrad – my bestie’s husband and his birthday is on the 28th.
So, in terms of celebrations, it’s a busy month. But it is in my business too.
In my business it is quarter 4, which means, a time to sell my 2024 social media diary and planner -the first lot of orders have already gone out.
Plus, I’m preparing for my last Powerful PR Planning Day of the year for 20 people – half of the places have already gone. That takes place on Wednesday November 29 at the beautiful Cotswold Park Barns. Email Hannah if you’d like to come:
There are also going to be changes with the clients I work with. Over the next few months, I’m working with three new clients and also saying goodbye to a couple, where our project work has come to a natural end.
There are so many stories bubbling away in my life and the lives of my clients.
Also, my podcast has now had more than 3,000 downloads so we’re now into getting another 1,000 under our belt.
So, what does October mean to you? And can you write about it and share some stories around this autumnal month?
