Outcomes from the No BS Media Summit

Following my first No BS Media Summit in February, I’ve been looking at the outcomes from the day.

There are several. One of the first and possibly most important, all five of the journalists that were with us have the contact details of all the attendees and a summary of what they can offer, comment on or talk about. That’s an amazing outcome that can continue to have an impact for months and even years into the future.

A few weeks ago one of the attendees was featured in an interview in the Telegraph all about becoming a model at the age of 84. The article also talks about her career – starting out at GCHQ and then as a successful business consultant, helping one firm she worked with to transform its turnover from £24 million to £45 million.

She has also featured in a business magazine around comments about the rise of AI. In terms of monetary value on coverage like that – it would be worth around five figures if you had to buy all of that space.

Another attendee has also featured in the same business magazine, having already been booked as a paid speaker by the magazine editor. In the article they are highlighting the fact he is going to be at their own event further in the year, and once that has taken place, he’s highly likely to be in a post event feature too.

Yet another attendee has been invited by one of the other journalists to be on a panel discussion in London, talking about business and the over-50s. Again, it is very likely that her input on the panel will also be reported by him.

Following the summit, another person who has made several changes in her business, including opening a shop has been interviewed for a national magazine around her story which will be published soon. This was due to her working with journalist Liz Perkins who took part in the summit.  The article is about her alcoholism, and covers the stages through her life, with a timeline of events that happened, from birth through to 2022 when she stopped drinking. The reason that she had the chance to share all this about herself is because she has built a bond with a journalist she trusts.

Several more people who I’m aware of are also in discussions with some of the journalists regarding more national publicity sharing their stories.

These are all incredible outcomes and none of these opportunities would have happened, had the people in the room not met the journalists at my Summit.  And, once a journalist has worked with someone and found them helpful and useful to what they write about, they are very likely to come back to them in the future when wanting to write about whatever subject that person could talk about.

As with any networking, meeting someone in person is always better than emailing, talking on the phone or online platforms. Because of the format of the summit, both attendees and journalists were able to get a ‘feel’ for each other. They could ask questions and with that access, create a bond with people in the room and that happens regardless of the attendees being a client of Scott Media.

For anyone desires media coverage for themselves, their expertise or their business (or a mixture), knowing two or three key freelance journalists is the best start – even if you work with someone like me.
