Why is PR important?
Refreshing from holidays, refreshing your knowledge, and refreshing your business is very much on people’s (and my) minds this September.
As the summer sun disappears (I swear it was there for a good few days), it’s important to consider hitting refresh on your understanding of PR. Remind yourself what it is and why you do it. How you can commit yourself and your business to something that will pay off in the long run.
Here’s me, a PR expert, hitting refresh and sharing the information and answering the frequent and core questions people ask when it comes to PR. I set myself the challenge of seeing if I could answer Google’s top asked questions regarding PR this September and with questions bursting at the seams, I thought it would be best to start at the very beginning.
The first and most persistent question that came up was: Why is PR important?
Sometimes in the day-to-day stress of running a business, posting and sharing your stories can become a second thought but remembering why public relations is important and why you are doing it and committing to it, you are doing yourself and your business future favours.
PR is not just for the media; it’s about engaging with all audiences. It’s vital for building trust and reputation. It’s also about taking immediate and effective action should anything happen, that could damage your business’ reputation – it’s important you’re ready to adapt to this with your PR head on.
What is unique about PR is that you won’t see the real effects of it until you are impacted by not having good PR. An experience I hope you won’t have to go through.
I’ve been in this field for a long time, working with audiences and the press throughout my career. We can’t control trends or the whims of an editor. But we can control our consistency and commitment to PR.
Hitting refresh and being resolute to our plans doesn’t have to be a new year’s phenomenon. Do it now and remind yourself about why PR is important. You don’t want to be going down trouble creek without a paddle.
